A Day of Play in Seaside

Good Eats Near the Beach

Halfway between Destin and Panama City, along the Emerald Coast waters, lies fairytale beach towns on County Road 30A. Among those beach towns is the master planned community of Seaside. Wooden custom cottages, wide porches and a complementary color palette to the bordering gulf waters makes Seaside the vision of a beach town ideal.
While enjoying the beautiful beach at Seaside, one may find hunger and thirst of necessity to quench. Fortunately, within walking distance from the beach, is a row of Airstream trailers offering culinary delight for all tastes.
Raw & Juicy organic juice bar and café offers super nutritious and fresh raw vegan fare including breakfast and lunch items. Juices and smoothies are made fresh to order from organic and locally grown fruits and vegetables. Try the ‘Beetlejuice’ made of apple, beet, ginger and lime or the ‘Pink Panther’ smoothie made from strawberries, bananas and fresh apple.
Their menu also includes heartier items such as a granola bowl, oatmeal or a parfait. For lunch, try spring rolls made with carrots, zucchini, herbs, scallions and a peanut dipping sauce. Also available for lunch are black beans and rice and a veggie hummus wrap with cucumber, green pepper, avocado, spinach and sprouts. Before heading back to the beach be sure to grab a bag of crispy kale chips for snaking on later.

Barefoot BBQ Airstream
Barefoot BBQ offers a few tasty vegetarian options for more robust tastes. When you place your order at the left window, they give you a numbered flip flop for your order. Pay attention to the right window because the staff pops their head out and hollers on a megaphone when your order is ready for pick up. Any item can be sauced up with the add-your-own hot sauces provided for patrons at the nearby tables or at the pick up window. Sauces include:
- Hang Ten: traditional, tomato base, brown sugar and bourbon
- Wipe out: vinegar, light, tart and fruity
- Pipeline: mustard base, sweet and spicy
- Hot Lava: spicy with cayenne and pepper sauce

Flip flop number & hot sauces
Vegetarian menu items are limited, but the few they offer use local growers from organic farms. I ordered the portobello sandwich during my visit. The mushroom was perfectly cooked and juicy. The spinach topping was fresh and the Texas toast was perfectly toasted and the right combination of textures of the crispy bread with a slightly chewy consistency. I sauced up my sandwich by trying every sauce with a different bite. I’d say the hang ten was my favorite. Vegetarian menu items to try:
- Spinach salad: local spinach, tomatoes, carrots, cucumber, Texas toast, ranch or basil vinaigrette. Add a portobello for $4 more
- Portobello sandwich: local spinach and garlic & jalapeño aioli served on Texas toast
- Corn on the cob
- Small green salad, potato salad
- Cole slaw, mac & cheese
